Here comes the stupid ? - what is it?! :) Everyone is saying they love this site and I have enjoyed reading the posts so far (only been 10 min 'tho. I started somewhere else then hit "Home" and landed here. Can someone help this poor confused 'ol lady? (61 and going strong :}) Sorry I am writing really extraneous stuff so I will go now. I don't use Dell laptops anymore. The last one I had (my son used it) died about a year ago. Of course, it was out of the warranty period. I recommend ThinkPads, now. They were IBM and are now Lenovo machines, but the basis design and architecture haven't changed much. I'm not sure I want to try anything else. Maybe a Sony later on. Good luck! John () - 9/9/2005 12:30:46 AM I have had my 600M for about a year. I use it quite a bit but never for anything hard core like games. Despite that, this damn thing gets so hot it is unbelievable. You cannot use it in your lap or you will actually suffer burns. It's also not uncommon for the touchpad mouse to begin to lag and not function properly. My fan has now begun to make noise and I believe it's going to stop soon, most likely because it is always running to try to keep the damn thing cool. Even though it's under warranty, I am going to replace the fan myself because I refuse to spend another second on the phone talking to someone in India that does not speak English. After reading all the posts, no one had a solution, but I think I found a technically simple one. A 3/8" thick stick of wood propped under the back of the laptop to hold the keyboard up at a slight angle. This allows the fan enough space to do it's job. I used to experience about 12 minutes of good gaming and 5 minutes of slowed gaming before I did this, and now I've just gone about 2 hours with only one slow-down. After playing for ½ hour the plastic cover covering the memory gets so hot that it can not be touched by human hands. Completely ridiculous. Just send e-mail to Dell, hope they have a solution. I reboot maybe 2 to 3 time due to the keys changing to hot keys or something odd like that....when working without the docking station the keys are totally unresponsive... the number keys at the top work on and off.. the letter keys do not work at all... same with the ctrl alt del keys...So of course I can't log in... this is a corp computer Help...
